Transform 2009: August 24th – August 29th
Transform is Letchworth Baptist Church’s summer programme. Since 1978 this annual programme has been focused on children and teenagers, most recently with Hiz Kidz on Holiday and Breakout. In 2009 it was been extended to include a seminar programme and Serve!. What used to be a week for children and teenagers became all-age.
Hiz Kidz on Holiday, Breakout and Serve! are run for the benefit of the local community and are manned by members of Letchworth Baptist Church and friends, who give up one week of their holiday each year to serve the community. As in previous years we were generously supported again in 2009 by the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.
Hiz Kidz on Holiday
This is a children’s event in the style of the weekly Hiz Kidz and is for children from 5 years old to 11 years old. Previously it has been a morning event held at St Frances’ College but in 2009 it was run between 2:15pm and 4:15pm Monday to Friday from the church itself. Judy Moore-Crispin headed the team for this week.
The fun daily programme included the usual Hiz Kidz craft, activities, Bible stories, games and puppets.
Breakout
I n 2 0 0 9 B r e akout was run between 10:15am and 12:15pm Monday to Friday, previously it was held in the afternoons, and it was, as always, concluded with finale on Saturday evening between 5:30pm and 9:30pm.
Once more Ed McGirr, an Irish/Mexican American led the week which included fun activities, games and Bible based talks from Ed.
The finale culminated with a BBQ preceded by crazy games at various locations around Letchworth.
Serve!
This was new in 2009. During the afternoons we aimed to show God’s love to the local community, particularly on the local Westbury Estate by organising teams to take on gardening and other odd jobs for folk who would value assistance. This was hard work but it was exciting to help folk in practical ways.
Seminars
In parallel with Hiz Kidz on Holiday, Breakout and Serve! during the week there was a study and seminar programme for adults. A Bible Reading was led by Neil Blake and the seminar speakers included guests from Letchworth and Kim Kee Lee from Oxford.
